Monday Afternoons
2pm – 3.30pm
TBC FOR 2024
MAPSingers is short for Monday Afternoon Poynton Singers. This is a large mixed-voice choir of around 70 members who sing in three parts: sopranos, altos and men.
The choir embraces many different genres of music from easy listening, to classic pop and songs from musical theatre. We would love to have more men joining us so that we could make the transition from three parts to four.
The choir stages two concerts a year, in July and at Christmas and both of these are held in the church of St George’s in Poynton, which is next to the church hall where we rehearse. Every rehearsal starts with a warm-up and after the 90 minutes of singing, there is the opportunity to chat with other choir members over a well-earned brew and a biscuit that is included in the price.
This was the first choir to be launched under the Cantata banner and started in 2009. They were one of the key choirs in our community production of ‘Noye’s Fludde’ in 2010.
Poynton has held three Arts’ Festivals over the years in which MAPSingers have performed alongside other Cantata groups.
Members have also entertained residents in local care homes and were regular carol singers at the Poynton Christmas Fest for many years.
Members of MAPS have also been part of our wider Cantata events, details of which are on our About page.
