CounterPoynt is a well-established ladies’ choir of around 40 voices, singing in three parts, soprano 1, soprano 2 and alto. Based in Poynton, CounterPoynt is the only one of our choirs to meet in the evening. New members would be welcome in all three sections.
Launched in May 2009, CounterPoynt started life as Poynton Community Singers, but with the absence of any men joining the ranks, the choir decided to become a female only group and changed its name to CounterPoynt.
The choir has a wide repertoire, and anything goes from madrigals to show-stopping numbers with most genres in between. Members have always been keen to participate in all of the wider community events with members of our other choirs.
As well as giving two concerts each year, CounterPoynt have sung for various local events and have joined forces with Poynton Community Orchestra on a couple of occasions to perform super Christmas concerts in St George’s Church.
The choir were also thrilled when asked to sing at the wedding of one of our younger members. Another concert highlight was the evening of music CounterPoynt gave together with the Wilmslow ladies of WOWSingers to mark 100 years of Suffrage and one of the pieces we performed was The Pankhurst Anthem. Mrs Pankhurst, in the person of CounterPoynt member Anna, even made an appearance at this event.
